新北市深坑凌晨驚傳火警，位於萬福路上的萬福寺今(17)凌晨2點多，突然冒出熊熊大火，燃燒面積約200坪，64歲的住持在睡夢中被燒死。

據《蘋果日報》報導，附近民眾發現火災當下趕緊打119，由於火警現場位於深坑山區，巷弄狹窄水源不足，佈水線就超過1公里，即使派出9個分隊全力搶救，仍然無法救回住持的性命。

64歲的住持「明空法師」，民國82年剃度出家，96年於新北市深坑區承購萬福寺弘法，他生前積極參與國內外佛教的組織與活動，對於低收入戶、老人、清寒弟子格外關照。

當地里長表示，14日信徒才幫法師舉辦壽誕，而且這周還要舉辦消災祈福法會，沒想到明空法師卻喪身火窟，趕到現場的信徒、比丘尼難忍悲痛，大家雙手合十替法師祝禱。

新北市消防局表示，火勢約於90分鐘後完全熄滅，確認寺內僅明空法師1人，起火原因尚待釐清。
