Samsung Electronics is holding sales events in Taiwan to promote Ultra HD TVs, with 55-inch units now being sold for just under NT$30,000 (US$1,000), according to local retailers.
Retailers in Taiwan expect to see a 20-30% increase in Ultra HD TV sales in the first quarter of 2015 as vendors slash pricing for the Lunar New Year period.
Overall, local retail chains in Taiwan expect 10-20% TV revenue growth in 2015 due to sales of Ultra HD TVs.
The Taiwan market has seen flat TV growth over the last few years, but due to increasing sales of Ultra HD TVs, which are primarily sized 42- to 85-inch, vendors and retailers have maintained profits.
Meanwhile, Samsung reportedly held a 92% share in the curved LCD TV market in Taiwan during 2014 but is seeing its market share in the Ultra HD TV segment threatened due to competition from LG Electronics and Sony.
