聖誕節的隔天又稱做「節禮日」，在這天比賽是英國足壇的一項傳統，讓聖誕假期的民眾享受球賽，而最幸福的球迷莫過於曼聯球迷。

曼聯3：1贏紐卡索後，在節禮日的比賽已經十一連勝，同時也是曼聯在節禮日的第「50」勝，連勝數以及勝場數皆為新紀錄。

曼聯可以維持這麼恐怖的勝率，跟前教頭Alex Ferguson嚴厲的治軍風格有關，一直到今年新教練Louis van Gaal取消聖誕節練球之前，每年的聖誕節，曼聯球員都必須到球場練球，也難怪這個決定讓Wayne Rooney表示非常感謝。儘管聖誕節沒練球，似乎沒影響到曼聯球員的狀態，反而士氣高昂在主場輕鬆收下一場勝利。

Rooney個人就踢進了2球，也有助攻給Van Persie拿到第3分，下半場有許多戴帽的機會，可惜沒把握住。

贏球後，收下3分積分來到35分，曼聯還是維持在積分榜第三位，切爾西以45分居首、曼城42分居次。
