殘酷死刑　注毒液掙扎25分鐘斷氣

【周佩萱╱綜合外電報導】美國俄亥俄州一死刑犯53歲的丹尼斯麥奎爾(Dennis McGuire)，當地時間16日早上10點過後正式行刑，獄方讓他注射鎮定劑midazolam和止痛劑hydromorphone兩種藥物混合，可導致缺氧致死，注射後會感受到巨大恐懼和痛苦，逐漸無法呼吸而死亡。

麥奎爾注射後痛苦掙扎，整個過程約費15分鐘才結束他的性命，後來《美聯社》再引述當局消息，指麥圭爾差不多經過近25分鐘才死亡。麥奎爾的家人親眼目睹整個過程，就在執行前，麥奎爾和家人說「我要去天堂了，到時我們天堂見」。

先前歐洲藥廠禁止美國監獄使用他們製造的藥物執行死刑，美國各州被迫尋求新的藥物，這次執行死刑的藥物是美國史上首次使用，從麥奎爾的例子看來，俄亥俄州官方可能得檢討這兩款藥物是否妥當。

麥奎爾1989年強暴並刺殺當時22歲的喬伊史都華，1994年被定罪判刑。
