日本索尼電腦娛樂公司所推出的新一代遊戲機「PlayStation 4」，上市至今天已經熱銷一千萬台了。連索尼都不知道，為什麼「PS4」會賣得這麼好。不過美國「富比士」雜誌的評論指出，「PS4」的上市期間，正好與競爭對手：微軟的「Xbox One」重疊，而「PS4」的熱賣，正好已經顯示了電動遊戲玩家，已經厭倦了一連串無休無止的聲光噱頭，他們只想要回歸打電玩的真正目標，就是玩一款好玩的遊戲，而「PS4」的極簡風格，正好打中了這一點。

遊戲評論家指出，真正的遊戲玩家，並不想再參與微軟與任天堂在遊戲平台上不斷的實驗，只想要一台功能簡單，但遊戲好玩的遊戲機，而「PS4」正好可以提供這個功能。

另外，也有評論指出，「PS4」的售價更低，而「Xbox One」與「PS4」幾乎同時上市，讓消費者有更多選擇，而「PS4」的熱賣，正象徵著遊戲消費者已經做出了他們的選擇。
