費城人推出王牌Cole Hamels想避免被巨人四戰橫掃，Hamels也不負期望，主投8局飆出10次三振，只失1分，終場帶領費城人以2比1力克巨人。

此役形成一場投手戰，巨人Tim Hudson投6局，失掉2分自責分，因用球數已經到達114球，球隊不得不將他換下場。Cole Hamels則技壓這位生涯超過200勝的前輩，8局投球只掉1分，拿下本季第5勝(5敗)，Hudson則吞下第7敗(8勝)。

費城人在第1局由Marlon Byrd敲出帶有打點的安打，幫助費城人先馳得點。巨人則是在第5局才突破Hamels的封鎖，Tim Hudson觸擊推進在一壘的Gregor Blanco上到二壘，Ehire Adrianza則抓準Hamels的第一球，敲出安打送回Blanco，把比數給扳平。

費城人在沉寂了3局後，在5局下也跟著開啟攻勢，Ben Revere靠著外野手Michael Morse的失誤上到二壘，Chase Utley敲出中外野平飛安打，將比數再度超前。

兩隊攻勢從第5局後再度中斷，9局上，費城人終結者Jonathan Papelbon上場關門，讓巨人隊三上三下，拿下個人第24次救援成功。
